Nature and culture

The Haute Marne is an area of outstanding natural beauty, still relatively untouched by commercialisation. You will find some of the most tranquil spots in France right on our doorstep, one of the reasons why we are so proud of what we have to offer here. Immerse yourself in nature, and step into our world.

Chateaux and gardens

Château du Grand Jardin, in the nearby town of Joinville, is an ideal place to spend an afternoon. Take a gentle stroll around the gardens, set in the shadows of the magnificent château.

Open throughout the summer, Les Jardins de Mon Moulin have a wonderful array of flowers and plants, set amongst some beautifully arranged gardens.

Nature walks

A five-minute drive from La Forge de Sainte Marie will take you to a pathway leading up to La Petite Suisse. A steady climb up will bring you to the summit giving you fantastic views of the surrounding area.

For the walkers amongst you, Cul du Cerf offers a variety of routes, ranging from steady to challenging. With the appearance of being a massive crater, the walks take you down into the heart of the forest below. There is wildlife around, as well as some great views from all areas. There are some ideal rest points, so make a day of it and take a picnic.

Lac du Der

Lac du Der, the largest man-made lake in Europe, is less than an hours drive from the site and offers adventure and relaxation in equal measures. Take a guided boat tour around the lake and learn about its fascinating history, or hire your own boat for a spot of fishing or bird watching. There are marked walking and cycling routes all around the lake, or if you prefer, lie back on one of the sandy beaches.
